Consulting

Software and systems engineering inside your team, on systems where correctness matters more than speed of delivery.

We work as an engineering consultant on embedded and automotive software, test and verification infrastructure, and the development tooling around them. Fifteen years of experience, more than ten of them in Python, much of it in environments where the software has to be argued for as well as written.

Where we work

  • Embedded and automotive software, including systems subject to certification
  • Test, verification and simulation infrastructure
  • Development tooling, build systems and CI/CD, including self-hosted environments
  • Backend and data-processing systems supporting the above

Typical assignments

Development

Implementation work as part of an existing team, primarily in Python, C and C++. This is the bulk of what we do: picking up a component, understanding the system around it, and delivering code that the team can maintain after we leave.

Architecture and refactoring

Design work on existing codebases — breaking large systems into parts that can be tested in isolation, separating what changes from what does not, and making the result something a new team member can hold in their head. We prefer incremental change to rewrites.

Functional safety and cybersecurity

Engineering work under ISO 26262 (automotive functional safety), DO 330 (tool qualification for airborne systems) and ISO 21434 (automotive cybersecurity): requirements, safety analyses, tool classification and qualification, and the documentation the standards require — written by someone who also writes the code it describes.

How we work

Assignments run on a monthly or hourly basis, remote or on site depending on the contract. We take on a small number of clients at a time so each one gets real availability rather than a name on a resource plan.
